Soroke Shows Well at Olympic Trials - A new PB, new club record and an eye opening experience

May 28, 2024

What a great experience for Delta Sungod swimmer Rebecca Soroke (15) at the 2024 Olympic & Paralympic Trials Presented by Bell.  The meet brought together 850 of the fastest swimmers in Canada, and in some cases the world!  For many swimmers this meet is the end of 4 years of preparation and dedication to their craft, for others, the meet is springboard to launch the next chapter of a swimmers career.  For Soroke it was an opportunity to take in the sights of her first Olympic Trials, swim a few races and meet some of the fastest people in the world, proven with the breaking of 2 World Records!

Soroke left Toronto with a new goal, a new personal best, and a new Club Record in the 100m fly Long Course.  It is great to be able to celebrate a personal best at such a big pressure meet, especially when the stakes are so high.  Soroke's 21st place finish also put her in the top 50% of the field, which is not too bad for a 15 year old at their first major competition.

Delta swimmers and coaches are looking forward to the club's next two competitive opportunities.  The first is the club's Delta 10 & Under Spring Cup which is still short on volunteers and officials.   Click here to sign up to help!  The second is the TRU Classic Invitational in Kamloops.  The club will be bringing 40 athletes to compete.
