A New National Qualifier, 9 New Club Records, and a Whole Lotta’ Personal Bests at Kamloops

What a great turnout the Delta Sungod Swim Club had at this year’s Thomson Rivers University Wolfpack Invitational.  The club brought 35 swimmers, and they were hungry to perform.   At the end the meet the club was 8^th overall. 

The Kamloops meet is a great opportunity for new swimmers to check out Long Course swimming (swimming in a 50m long pool, as opposed to a 25m pool, like Sungod Rec Centre), as well as be exposed to competition outside of the LMR. 

This meet’s standout swimmer was Madelyn Paredes Troughton (14) who qualified her Canadian Junior Championship time in the 100 breaststroke, her Provincial time in the 200 IM, broke some club records, and crushed some finals swims.

Emma Zhang (12) qualified her BC Provincial times in the 50 back and 400 free.  Grace Bruneau (14) qualified in the 50 free.  New Divisional qualifiers were: Aaron Alby, Mia Bruneau, Ariyan Dhesi, Yujun Du, Kaia Hall, Manraj Johal, Gurshaan Sangha, Rebecca Soroke, Gabrielle Wang, Emma Zhang.

The club rolled an astonishing 89% personal best times over the course of the weekend.  Swimmers achieving 100% personal bests this weekend with no disqualifications were:  Colbie Deeg (13), Ariyan Dhanji, Ariyana Dhesi (12), Joshua Dhesi (15), Tiger Du (13), Kaia Hall (12), Manreet Johal (12), Oliver Lee (11), Ganeev Purba (13) and Kairae Wang (11).  It is great to see so many swimmers swim so fast across all stroke disciplines.

Club records were broken by Madelyn Paredes Troughton in the Girls 13-14 Long Course 100m breaststroke, and 50m breaststroke.  Emma Zhang (12) broke the club records in the Girls 11-12 Long Course 50m freestyle, 100 freestyle, 50 backstroke, and 100 backstroke.

New Club Records were broken in the Girls 11-12 200 Freestyle Relay by Emma Zhang, Kaia Hall, Mia Bruneau and Ariyana Dhesi.
