100% Personal Bests at the Chilliwack Distance Meet
Congratulations to all the swimmers who went out to Chilliwack this past weekend to race the 400 free, 400 IM, 800 free, or 1500 free. It was amazing to see how swimmers put together their longer races. The club's swimmers had 100 percent best times since their last distance opportunity in December.
For the majority of swimmers the opportunity to swim distance events is rare. Most swim meets only allow the fastest 24 or 16 swimmers the opportunity to swim. Anyone who does not make those rankings does not get to swim. Those entries are ranked off of a swimmer's official best time, and unfortunately one cannot get an official time if one doesn't swim the event.
Not everyone is a sprinter, or a flyer. Some swimmers are more inclined towards distance swimming either through mindset or physical aptitudes. It is a shame when really good distance athletes do not get the opportunity to swim their best event because they are never exposed to it.
When given the opportunity to swim distance, the coaching staff always, always, always encourages swimmers to take it.
That being said, your next distance opportunity is the 5km pool swim during Swim-A-Thon! See you there!
